Family Meals

“A family who eats together, stays together” – this widely known expression has never been so valuable.

How often do you enjoy meals together with your family and especially with your children?

Nowadays, more often than not we use takeaway services and eat this food on the run or in front of the TV. The syndrome “eat on the run” is thriving, as places with ready food are growing rapidly. Unfortunately, the majority of this food cannot be called HEALTHY.

Home-made meals around the table with the whole family is like a lost art. This dramatically affects your body, your mind including your emotions and even relations in the family. Furthermore, when you eat on the run, the secretion of saliva and digestive juices is suppressed and correspondingly digestion is impaired. This is the start of developing ill health.

Beyond doubt, the revival of family meals should become a priority for each family especially for those with children. Eating right is absolutely crucial for the health of the whole family. There are many benefits that come from family meals, so make it a tradition, don’t miss them! What are the benefits?
First of all, it is good for the body and soul and can be a stress reliever for both parents and children. It helps to establish long-term healthy eating habits, home-cooked meals are more nutritious than meals from restaurants and can even be money-saving meals. But I would like to focus more attention on how it can be beneficial for children and their development. Research shows that family meals can help provide children with better mental, emotional and physical health in childhood and later in their life. They, also, perform better at school and have a decreased risk of being overweight or obese.

Family meals may give a sense of security to children

Other studies suggest that healthy eating patterns in the family build up healthier eating habits in children and help them in the future to maintain a healthy lifestyle. And this is just a small part of the benefits of eating as a family.

To create a lasting family health journey you should move at your own pace and eventually your family will enjoy the benefits that come with the change.

Cooking with children

The sooner children get involved in cooking and experimenting with various recipes in the kitchen and the healthier their relationship builds up with food, the easier it will be for them to make healthier food choices later in life.

Make your dinner table not only a place for a healthy meal but a place where you can connect with your children. Allow them to share their feelings and thoughts, listening actively to each other and giving them the feeling of a strong family. What can be more valuable than health and happiness of all of our family members?
